For a Temporary Fix-
- Instead of sharecropping the south needs to rebuild farms/ plantations so they can hire not buy freedmen/ and whites in need of jobs and pay them buy rebuilding the farms since everybody’s looking for a job.
- Just to see if the owners treat them fairly we can send northern not southern sheriffs undercover (because southerners will discriminate against blacks) to see if they’re treating the blacks fairly. If not they need to pay a fine
How to Fix Sharecropping
- There will be buildings all over the south called sharecropping trade centers where the exchange of money will be held and there will be people from the special investigation teams there to make sure the money is split equally
- The farmers would have to go there at the end of every harvesting time to split the money, if not they would pay a high fine.
Policies to Help Farmers
- Only one day every month farmers can sign a sheet in the town central and ask for financial help, but they would have to work that money off - called Farmer's Help
- Take money from Farmer's Help, so each month that money would be used to give the farmers new supplies and tools ( for the many who can’t afford supplies)
Crops we should grow
- corn- In 1859, corn production growing in the Midwest. Illinois saw 115,175 bushels, while Ohio had 73,543, and Indiana had 71, 589 bushels.
- wheat & barley - threshing machine (By 1860, a threshing machine could thresh 12 times as much grain per hour as could six men.)
- In 1850............................867,000,000 bushels.
